Series 3: Episode 16 - the author on his favourite line from a book...
‘Brighton Rock’ by Graham Greene is the novel that made me want to be a writer and when I read this as a young teenager I thought “I want to write a crime novel set in Brighton that’s halfway as good as this book”, it was a dream I had all my life. ‘Brighton Rock’ has I think the most captivating opening line that I know.
“Hale knew… before he had been in Brighton three hours that they meant to murder him”.
