My fine line is taken from Joseph Conrad’s great short story ‘Typhoon’ and he’s describing the parents of the principle character, Captain McWhirr, we hear all about the parents and then we have this sudden, swift, brisk, brutal line. I love it because it’s so succinct, so short and so dramatic and unsentimental.
