Show 2: Sharmilla Beezmohun from New Beacon Books in London's Finsbury Park...
New Beacon Books was established in 1966 and was the country's first black bookshop. Today it carries a range of fiction, non-fiction, and childrens' books from the Caribbean, Asia, Britain and all over the world.
This year is the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery, and Sharmilla recommends this book by the Jamaican Erna Brodber because "it's a beautifully-written work about the impact of slavery on the local population and how they deal with it. There's lots of great writing and poetry and you really think about slavery afterwards. It stayed with me for a long time."
